MICHEL TORINO SEC MELBAC
Michel Torino Malbec has been a big hit in our $12/under
section for the last several vintages. We think it's because it over delivers
for its very friendly price point with an equally friendly, fruity and soft
character.
The Torino vineyard sits at 1,700 meters above sea level
in the Calchaquí Valley in northern Argentina and thus attain considerable
concentration at that high elevation. The grapes are manually harvested and
spend about six months in a mix of French and American oak barrels, all of which
results in a generously fruited wine with flavors of saturated blackberries,
black plum and a smidgen of spice, on silky and ripely toned tannins.
Tasting Notes
An expressive deep violet-crimson wine that comes from low yielding vineyards. The unique mountainous microclimate gives the wine distinct plum aromas, with subtle cherry, rosemary, and chocolate notes. The first impression on the palate is that of red berries and sweet plums, followed by the secondary complexity from ageing in French and American oak for six months. A long finish and well-structured tannins that richly coat your mouth make this an easy to drink wine. Its strength of flavours means you can even pair it with spiced Indian dishes and hearty meats. Allow it to breathe after opening.
